Welcome

Yoga Therapy Co was founded by Karen Hemming whose interest in bodywork began over 35 years ago studying drama and movement. She became interested in the stories our bodies hold and how our history is hidden within them. She went on to to study Shiatsu at the East West Centre in London in 1989, qualifying and practising from 1995.

This interest then led to studying traditional Chinese medicine with Chinese acupuncturists to further her understanding of body work from an Eastern perspective. These experiences influence her Yoga teaching.

After completing her teacher training course with the British Wheel of Yoga she came across the teachings of Vanda Scaravelli. After a visit to Italy to work with Diane Long who was Vanda’s principal student she became fascinated by this way of working. Diane has had a big influence on Karen’s teaching and she describes her yoga as “Scaravelli inspired”.

Karen is a qualified experiential yoga therapist based on the teachings of Dr M. V Bhole’s Anubhava yoga, accredited by the British Council For Yoga Therapy: Focusing on sensing, feeling, experiencing and releasing tensions by working with the breath. Yoga Therapy Co teaches classes, workshops , retreats and one to one yoga therapy tailored to individual needs. We believe that Yoga is for everyone and you can start at any age if you listen to your body and work with an awareness of gravity and breath. We enjoy helping people to manage their own health.

We welcome all ages, all races, all gender identities, all sexual orientations, all religions, all beliefs and all abilities.

“I have found a perfect yoga class with Karen who teaches in a gentle but direct way. I have tried yoga many times and it always ended like a battle but this yoga feels more like an unfolding of my own body and myself”
